Tom Schaal’s career spans more than three decades of diversified experience in the commercial real estate profession in multiple product types and in different service roles, including brokerage, lending, construction and property development. Schaal has successful held leadership positions in top tier companies and earned an excellent and respected reputation within the industry.
For many years (April 2004 to May 2009), Schaal was a Vice President with Opus West Corporation in Sacramento and responsible for all aspects of development and bottom line profit. He and the Opus team successfully entitled, built, leased and sold six Class-A, midrise-office projects totaling over 660,000 square feet in Roseville, Rocklin and Sacramento. His group also entitled, built, leased and sold over 700,000 square feet of retail resulting in over $90 million of net profit for the company.
Schaal has also been an advisor and consultant to the Bank of America by analyzing and providing guidance for the bank’s REO properties.
Earlier in his career, he held development positions with Summit Commercial, Hillman Properties and completed partnership development projects with Robbins Land Co., CT Realty Advisors, W.L. Butler and Fite Development Co. Project highlights in which Schaal had direct management responsibilities feature the 670-acre Southport Business Park in West Sacramento and subsequent construction and sale of over one million square feet of office and industrial property (with Summit) and the 655-acre Port Sacramento Industrial Park (with Hillman). During his tenure with Hillman, Schaal helped build and sell over two million square feet of office, industrial and retail properties and sold over 400 acres to end-users. He also led the effort to acquire, entitle and plan the 120-acre Savi Ranch project in Yorba Linda, CA.
Schaal got his start in commercial real estate with Coldwell Banker Commercial in 1974, working as an office leasing agent, investment salesman and mortgage broker.
